Heungkong Charitable Foundation
On June 14, 2005, the Heungkong Group established and funded the Heungkong Charitable Foundation (“the Foundation”), China's first national-level foundation founded by private sector, it is numbered 001 by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
Since its establishment, the Heungkong Charitable Foundation has been committed to education, poverty alleviation, and rescue and disaster relief. It has steadfastly helped people in need and explored the way to sustainable development.
Over the years, the Foundation has worked tirelessly in education, poverty alleviation, and rescue and disaster relief. In 2007, we launched the “Five 1,000 Project”, namely, building 1,000 charity libraries, helping 1,000 impoverished families, sponsoring 1,000 orphans, subsidizing 1,000 under-privileged students and recruiting 1,000 volunteers. Over the past 10 years, we have planned and carried out 7 brand projects, carried out over 20 large-scale public welfare activities and participated in over 200 fundraising activities.
For many years, the Foundation has served over 2 million needy people. Its efforts include sending books to over 1 million students, providing assistance to over 80,000 handicapped children and elderly people, granting scholarships to nearly 500 outstanding university students, constructing houses for over 300 single mothers and assisting over 100 deaf children. In the past 10 years, the Foundation has grown tremendously. Its team now comprises nearly 20,000 volunteers and over 100,000 volunteers have participated in its public welfare causes. Its charitable causes has covered 18 cities and provinces in China and has extended abroad to support the Chinese education in Myanmar.
At the end of 2010, Forbes (Chinese Edition) released “China Top Charitable Foundations” for the second time, and the Heungkong Charitable Foundation was listed as one of the top three of the ten best non-public foundations. In 2011, it won Charity China’s Outstanding Non-public Foundation Award. At the beginning of 2012, “Heungkong Charity Library” was awarded the title “the First Group of Demonstration Projects of Social Work Services” by the Civil Society Administration of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China for its standardized project flow and professional execution capability, and it also won “2015 Social Innovation Excellence Projects of Global Enterprises”.
Changes in behavior originate from changes in the environment and ways of thinking. The operation of public welfare in the new era also demands innovation.
In 2011, the Heungkong Charitable Foundation launched the Fund for Female Entrepreneurship, the Special Relief Fund, “Heungkong · Splendid Culture Inheritance”, “Heungkong · Public Welfare Training of Chinese Media Journalists”, “Public Welfare Spark Training (Phase II)” and so on. For many years, it has been actively helping women, children and craftsmen become independent and self-sustaining by helping them improve their living environment.
Also worthy of note is Heungkong Charitable Foundation’s support for stay-at-home children. From the 2007 project which helps orphans and cares for stay-at-home children, to building 50 child-friendly community projects within the Guangdong Province in 2014, we consider it our responsibility and mission to let the children in mountainous regions feel the same love and warmth as children from other areas.
As the first national non-public charitable foundation in China, the Heungkong Charitable Foundation is committed to playing a lead role in the transformation of public welfare strategy and to be innovators in interactive and standardized public welfare models. We insist in helping people in poverty-stricken areas carry out community construction by means of “self-generation”, i.e. creating an entrepreneurial environment conducive to employment and encouraging them to improve their lives through their own efforts. In the future, we will continue to explore innovative methods for the advancement of charitable causes and public welfare models.
For 10 years, the Heungkong Charitable Foundation has been dedicated to “devoting to charity and giving back to society”, and adhering to the vision of “making charity a kind of fashion, style and culture”, thereby inspiring benevolence and goodwill through donation and kindness and contributing to a harmonious society.
